Course Overview

In March 2012 the SIA announced the intention to require existing door supervisors who had achieved the pre-QCF Door Supervision qualification (for example the National Certificate for Door Supervision) to undertake additional training in order to renew their licence.HABC have been involved in discussions with the SIA to develop a new qualification that will meet these new requirements for SIA Door Supervisor licence renewals.

Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry
  • Understand physical interventions and the implications of their use.
  • Understand how to reduce the risk of harm when physical intervention skills are used.

Career Impact

This qualification has been developed to meet the mandatory top-up requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA) for learners who undertook their qualification prior to the Door Supervision qualifications and who need to renew their licence.It is based on the relevant SIA Specifications for Learning and Qualifications and provides the learner with the necessary knowledge and understanding to renew their SIA licence and work as a door supervisor within the private security industry.

Entrance Requirement
You must provide:
  • Two identity documents from group A. At least one document must show your current address and at least one document must show your date of birth.

Or

  • One identity document from group A and two documents from group B. At least one document must show your current address and at least one document must show your date of birth.
Group A
  • If you are a UK passport holder, your passport number entered on the application form. You do not need to submit the actual passport.
  • Signed valid passport of any other nationality.
  • Driving licence photocard if it was issued by the DVLA in Great Britain. We will not accept the photocard on its own if it was issued by the DVA in Northern Ireland.
  • Driving licence photocard and its paper counterpart issued by the DVA in Northern Ireland.
  • UK original birth certificate issued within 12 months of birth
  • UK biometric residence permit card
Group B (Address & Identity)
  • Valid UK firearms licence with photo.
  • Current UK driving licence - paper version (not the paper counterpart to a photocard).
  • P45 statement of income for tax purposes on leaving a job issued in the last 12 months.
  • P60 annual statement of income for tax purposes issued in the last 12 months.
  • Bank or building society statement issued to your current address, less than three months old. You can use more than one statement as long as each is issued by a different bank or building society.
  • Mortgage statement issued in the last 12 months.
  • Utility bill (gas, electric, telephone, water, satellite, cable) issued to your current address within the last three months. NOTE: You can only submit one utility bill in support of your SIA application.
  • Pension, endowment or ISA statement issued in last 12 months.
  • Letter from H.M. Revenue & Customs, Department of Work and Pensions, employment service, or local authority issued within the last three months. You can submit more than one letter as long as each is issued by a different Government department or a different local authority.
  • A credit card statement sent to your current address within the last three months. You can submit more than one statement as long as each is issued by a different issuer.
  • Council Tax statement issued in the last 12 months.
Group B (Identity Only)
  • Driving licence photocard (without a paper counterpart) issued by the DVA in Northern Ireland.
  • Valid EU photo card.
  • Marriage certificate or Civil Partnership certificate, with translation if not in English.
  • UK birth certificate issued more than 12 months after date of birth, but not a photocopy.
  • Non-UK birth certificate, with translation if not in English.

Q: What is the aim of this course?

To work as a SIA Door Supervisor or SIA Security Guard in the UK you will need to have an SIA licence issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). One of the requirements of the SIA licence is that you hold a recognised qualification, and the Level 2 Award in Door Supervision is the requirement for the SIA Licence. The SIA Door Supervisor course is run over three days and has 30 hours of tuition with 2 hours of exams. The exams consist of four multiple choice papers with pass marks of 70% and a physical intervention assessment. NOTE: If you work as a Door Supervisor without an SIA licence you are liable to a fine and/or prison time. Q: Who is this course for?

New entrants to the security industry and those who are returning to it having previously worked prior to the introduction of SIA licensing in 2004. WIll need to undertake the SIA training to be able to apply for the SIA licence

Q: What are the benefits?

The SIA recognised Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors will enable you to apply to the SIA for a Door Supervisor licence, and by obtaining this SIA licence you will increase your employment opportunities. Although the course syllabus will provide you with the basic knowledge needed to pass the exams, our instructors will also demonstrate to you the real life practicalities of being a SIA Door Supervisor or SIA Security Guard, so that when you eventually start work you will feel much more confident in your new role.

Results are mostly (95% of the time) published on our website after 14 working days of exam date. We aim to notify you the same day your training provider forwards the results to us. We will also send you an SMS to inform you when your results are available.

Q: When will I receive my certificate?

Certficates are dispachted 4 – 6 weeks after successful course completion via Royal Mail – Recorded Delivery. We aim to post your certificate within 2 days after receiving it from your training provider. We will send you an email with the tracking number when your certificate is dispatched.

Q: Do I need my certificate to apply for SIA Licence?

No, you do not need your certificate to apply for SIA Licence. You can apply for SIA Licence as soon as you have your result.

Q: I want to work as a Security Guard, is this course right for me?

Yes, you may work as a security guard if you hold a Door Supervisor licence, however will not be allowed to work as a Door Supervisor if you hold a security guard licence. This makes Door Supervisor course more valuable. Tesco/Asda and now most shopping centres are licenced premises reducing the possibility of working at different sites.

The need for quality training of Closed Circuit Television (Public Space Surveillance) Operatives has long been recognised. This three-day course is designed to assist companies in the provision of basic job training that meets the SIA requirements for licensing. Yes, this course involves hands-on experience working with CCTV systems.

Q: My name is spelt wrong on the certificate, what do I do?

If your name is spelt wrong on your certificate, you will have to send us a copy of your passport or driver's licence and we will re-issue you a new certificate, please note it takes over 10 days to recieve a new certificate.

Q: What if my certificate is lost in the post?

A new certificate can be ordered at an extra cost of £35.

Q: I have already done my Security Guard or Door Supervisor training, do I have to attend the full course?

If you have completed your Door Supervisor or Security Guard training after August 2010 and have the new QCF qualfication, you will be exempt from the Unit 1 - Working in the Private Security Industry unit.
